ITC-100 relay control

Hi all,

I have an ITC-100V that I’m using to control a 240v 12a heating element in a kiln. This ‘V’ model is supposed to output 12vdc to a Solid State Relay (SSR). Is there any reason I cannot substitute the SSR for a 12vdc mechanical power relay instead?

  • I would use a mechanical relay with a 12vdc coil and 240vac 20a switching current.
  • I want to avoid using a SSR as they nearly always fail ‘closed’ which in my application could be very dangerous and/or expensive.

I consulted an engineer and was told that if the mechanical power relay (coil) is 12v, 30mA it is possible to use it.
