ISC-027BW issue

The engineers have received the feedback and the testing project is ongoing.
We are constantly following up on this issue. Please understand that it takes time to set up the test environment, reproduce the issue, test the data, and adjust the product. I will let you know if there is any new information.

Hello Tania,

The product definitely has this issue .if it can’t be fixed then where do I stand as I purchased direct from INKBIRD?

Thanks, Alan

Send it back, get the refund and buy something else. As long as customer support is the way it is, no one can expect any change.

The other fan controller (007BW) from Inkbird is entirely suitable or just buy the Flameboss for the ultimate experience, which I got recently. Ever since, all has been good, and no need for the admins fake promises.

Cheers,
Akos

ps.: the customer service agent dealing with refunds is super nice and cooperative unlike the one we have here

I have the previous model and cannot fault it. I purchased the newer model for the second kamado.

Now looking at flame boss :+1:

Just wrote a review. The 100% fan on needs to be fixed. I have started controlling the unit manually and it seems to help issue. I turn off the fan at 10 degrees out. Let it off for 5 min then turn on the fan again and it picks up the new temperature and adjust fan correctly. This thing has so much potential and if developers listen this thing could be a leader on market. Also can you tell me if any of your better temp probes would work with the unit, would need to make it where you can upgrade the probes!

Hi Tania,

Any updates. I just bought the ISC-027BW as I was already a happy owner of an INT-11P-B and an IBBQ 4BW. Now I’m reading this and starting to worry as I am just about to use it for the first time.

Hello,
ISC-027BW has been upgraded with firmware.
If you encounter any problems during use, please feel free to email support@inkbird.com for after-sales service.

Tania,

what is the current firmware you are referring to?

Thanks

Tania,

what is the current firmware you are referring to?

Thanks

@Tania reply is highly appreciated. Thanks

Hello,
The latest hardware version of ISC-027BW is 1.02.

Hello @Tania are you referring to hardware or software version ?

Hello, It is the hardware version.

Which I do find where in the app for my device?

Hi i bought my unit about 6 month ago, and had some of the problems (like temp overshoot) discussed here. I found
mainmodul: V2.5.2
mcu-modul: V1.0.1

@Tania So does that mean i have to send in the device for an update? or is there a software update that can be applied by me?

@timsteinmetz I found the info in the app under the threedot menu->more->device update.

For everybody have issue with ISC-027BW and overshooting target temperature, see here: ISC-027BW missing the target temperature and go over - #8 by matteo.sorba

I have one of these temperature controllers and they work just fine, when used properly.
Any of these fans are not good at putting out a fire especially if used with a thermally efficient BBQ like a BGE.
The temperature needs to be close to the desired temperature before putting on auto, otherwise overshoot will occur.
As for the fan always running at 100% is not the case also, the funny noise that people are reporting is the pulse being fed to the fan at different percentages, all perfectly normal, there are other reviews on the internet by knowledgeable people that explain this also, I have put them below.

I am happy with the device and can recommend it!
I live in Europe/Austria (please excuse my bad English).
Since the device is not available in Europe yet, I ordered it from Amazon US.
I use it with a Weber Smokey Mountain 22.5.

Since the Inkbird adapter does not really fit for the WSM, I ended up using an BBQ Guru Weber adapter instead. It has the benefit that the incoming air is directed downward because of the cover on the inside of the adapter. The inner diameter of the BBQ Guru adapter is 31mm. The Inkbird fan has a diameter of 30mm. Without any modification this would be too loose. I fixed the problem wrapping some temperature resistant sticky aluminum tape to the Inkbird fan, this gives a nice and tight fit.

A few things to mention regarding the inkbird fan:
+positive:
• Relatively cheap
• The device can be operated using a USB power bank (20000mAh + recommended)
• Temperature stays within +/-5°C of the target temp
• 3 meat probes, 1 cooking chamber probe
• Sleek design compared to the old version (ISC 007 BW)
• WIFI and Bluetooth compatible

-negative:
• The Fan seems to be pulse regulated. That means the engine itself can only run 0% or 100% speed. If the device calculates 60% are required, it will end up creating short pulses e.g. 400ms off, 600ms on. This seems to work fine but it creates a strange noise pattern.
• Software needs some polishing but works good enough for my backyard BBQ.
• An app for the apple watch would be nice but it is not available.
Advice:
To achieve good regulation, bring your smoker to target temperature manually, then close all draft regulators except the one with the inkbird fan. Close the exhaust regulator halfway to limit air flow.
(This is required because even if the inkbird is off the smoker can suck air through the idle fan)
If this state is reached activate the Inkbird fan and let it take control.

This unit works really well if you know how to use it but the instructions don’t help.

DO NOT USE THE CONTROLLER UNTIL YOU ARE ALMOST TO YOUR TARGET TEMP!

Don’t light your coals and start this unit as it will overshoot your temp big time. This is true of every controller I have used over the last 20 years. I know pellet smokers don’t do this but this doesn’t work with a pellet smoker.

  1. Start fire and watch the temp (use the app to monitor the temp but don’t toggle the fan on yet}
  2. When the temp gets to ~25 degrees F of your target, turn the fan on using the toggle in the app.
  3. Temp will jump over a few to 10 degrees of target then settle back down.

The primary reason I have seen overshoots is people lighting too much charcoal right out of the gate. This unit cannot kill your coals and it takes a lot of time to bring the overshoot YOU created back down. Know your smoker

Thanks for this idea! Silicone tape I had lying around was too thick. Going to use this with my Big Poppa Smokers UDS which also has a BBQ Guru Adaptor.

Shame Inkbird didn’t go with 31mm but hey, easily solvable.

Anyone else reading this, I went for Gladiator Aluminium Tape, you’re searching for Heat Resistant Insulating tape.

You can start to “pid” your BBQ also from beginning with this trick:
