I just installed the IIC-400 irrigation controller and it’s beating my valves to death. I Have the recommended Rain Bird HV-100 which is pretty much industry standard along with Hunter PGV 101. They are designed to run at 24 VAC 50/60 Hz. This controller sends out 6 kHz which makes the valve hot and noisy. I have not tested my contactor yet but I fear that it will go up in flames if I try to use it straight on the controller.
This is a problem for me. I don’t want to build things around this problem. I bought a controller with features I want that are not there on other controllers and just plug my valves and my pump relay in. Now I have a big headache and I still have to use my hose to water my plants.
The question is, since I have seen people install these with Hunter valves without problems. Why is mine not behaving good? Is the output designed for 6 kHZ or is it just mine?
Edit: Output 1 is disaster. Output 4 is doing just a fraction of the noise at 4.8 kHz.
Edit2: It works! New solenoid on my valve and it’s as perfect as it can be. Has to return one valve.
