I have a 2.4 router and have confirmed it is not a 5.0 connection. I have tried to connect the unit to the router BOTH when the light was flashing slowly and quickly next to the top temperature number. I have checked the network and password and both are correct. When I try to connect the router to the device the bottom of the connection screen on my phone reads “Device found. Register Device to Smart Clout. Initializing device…” After the app tries to connect and gets to 100% it fails and says "Device not responding. Check demerit points and retry.) Bluetooth and location services on my phone are on.
Should I return the controller or is there something else I should try?

Sorry for the delayed response due to a busy schedule.
The ITC-306A has a slow flash mode, which helps with one-to-one connections. Perhaps you could try this mode?
Please long press the upper button of the ITC-306A for 3-5 seconds until the PV displays “APP”, then release the button and wait for 5-8 seconds, and it will switch to connection mode.
Please refer to the following steps:
Turn the device WIFI indicator to slow flashing.
The mobile phone is connected to the 2.4GHz wifi (Please make sure that the phone is not connected to the 5GHz wifi band), the 2.4GHz wifi router can successfully surf the Internet, and the location permission has been opened.
Open the app, select the AP mode, enter the wifi name and password, the app will prompt to connect to smartlife-xxx. Do not click Confirm at this time.
Please switch the page to the mobile phone wifi connection settings, after connecting to the smartlife-xxx hotspot, it will display “connected without internet”.
Then please return to the app immediately, click confirm, and it will enter the connection mode.
If it still does not work, we may need to verify that the router settings meet the requirements of the ITC-306A. However, this will require two mobile phones:
Turn on the hotspot of phone A, it will work as a 2.4GHz wifi router. Phone A is placed next to the product.
Phone B connects to the hotspot of phone A, and downloads the INKBIRD APP.
Phone B connects to the product as instructed by the app.
If the product can connect to phone B in this test, it means its WIFI function is working. Please recheck the router settings.
