Why does the app need so many permissions? I searched and there was nothing recent about this topic (Nov 2022 and Oct 2021 aren’t recent).
I bought the meat thermometer (IHT-2PB) two years ago as it said the Bluetooth range was 328ft, so I could monitor my cooking from anywhere in my house or yard. The only things that matter are an accurate temperature reading and sending a notification to my phone when the meat gets to the right temp.
That should require access to Bluetooth, nothing else. You don’t even need my phone number for that.
I shouldn’t have to create an account. I shouldn’t have to enable precise GPS location. I don’t need my meat thermometer to know what the weather is like in my area. I don’t need my meat thermometer to text or email my contacts to let them know the steak is done. I don’t need Uncle Roy monitoring my smoked brisket from his phone.
Could these all be advanced features that are available if you want or need them? Sure, but make the app simple to use with the least permissions necessary for the rest of us.
