IIC-800-WIFI Local Weather Rain Skip

I recently purchased the IIC-800-WIFI thinking it could rainskip based on the app being aware of my local weather.

I bought the IIC-800-WIFI because physically it’s one of the nicest looking irrigation controllers on the market.

After re-reading the manual I see that it only works with a rain sensor, and can’t make decisions based on local forecast. Why? There are WiFi controllers half the price on Aliexpress that have rainskip based on local weather.

Why does the app show you the local weather, but not have the option to skip watering on rainy days?

I’m now looking at buying a different controller because I don’t want to have a rain sensor :frowning:

My question:

  • Is app-controlled rainskip on the development team roadmap for the IIC-800-WIFI? It makes it a more attractive WiFi controller in the market.

Thanks

You can absolutely make a makeshift rain skip without a rain sensor. Under the section Smart->Automation, you can manually set the rain sensor by:

If Weather → Rainy
Then Rain Sensor Off (or maybe on, I have to test this when I get everything setup)

Don’t forget to do an opposite rule when it’s not raining. I do seasonal adjustments based on weather too in a fairly complex set of rules. I have a greenhouse and want more water when it’s hot and sunny. Less when it’s gloomy and rainy.
